Zakiya Brown

Zakiya Brown (she/her)

is the Michigan Deputy Director for Rise, bringing a wealth of experience in community engagement and organizational leadership. Previously, Zakiya served as the Coordinator for Black Youth Vote Metro Detroit, where she played a pivotal role in mobilizing and empowering young Black voters across the state. With deep roots in community organizing, Zakiya has been actively involved in driving social change at the grassroots level. Through her work, she has honed skills in community engagement, advocacy, and coalition building, working tirelessly to create opportunities for underserved populations. Zakiya’s commitment to her community is reflected in her ability to connect with diverse groups, foster collaboration, and lead initiatives that uplift and empower those she serves. Zakiya was born and raised in Pontiac, Michigan. She is deeply committed to issues surrounding voting rights, servant leadership, and a variety of other important social causes. She has a genuine passion for advocating for equitable access to the voting process and leading by example in community-focused initiatives. Her interests span across several key areas of social impact, where she continuously strives to make a meaningful difference.
