Student voices build power! In December, a Rise University training at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) was interrupted by an active shooter who tragically took the lives of three faculty that day. The Rise students who were present during the shooting conducted a press conference shortly after, and just a few weeks ago, took part in a public testimony to urge leaders to take action for more gun violence protection on campus.
We are proud to announce that the voices of these brave Rise students successfully prompted Nevada lawmakers to approve a $2.6M contract for extra security at college campuses that will include hiring more contract security for schools including UNLV, College of Southern Nevada, and Nevada State College. Nevada lawmakers approve $2.6M contract for extra security at college campuses

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Nevada colleges including UNLV will soon receive more money for extra security on school campuses.
The Interim Finance Committee met on Wednesday and approved a $2.6 million contract to help colleges across the state.
The money was approved to help hire more contract security for schools including UNLV, College of Southern Nevada, and Nevada State College.
UNLV said the money will help cover 8 additional security guards that were previously covered by insurance following December’s campus shooting.
