about Rise

At RISE, we’re unleashing the youth wave — the next generation of civic leaders who will reshape the future of our country.

Founded in 2017, RISE is a youth-led nonprofit that amplifies youth voices to become the decisive force in elections and expand political possibilities. We leverage storytelling to ensure that progressive values shape mainstream culture and policy.

While our work began on college campuses and focused on ensuring higher education is affordable and accessible, we have broadened our horizons, expanding our work into many other issues impacting young people. We want to make sure every young person out there knows that we see them, we understand their concerns and we share them — that there is a place for them at RISE, at the polls, and in every room and at every table where decisions that impact our lives are made.

Rise's track record of major wins includes: launching or scaling free college for thousands of students across states including California, Georgia, New Mexico, and Wisconsin, training 10,000 young civic leaders, and contacting 3 million youth voters since 2018.

Our Approach

Through strategic media campaigns and youth-led community organizing, we activate youth around issues they are passionate about. We build youth political power by training them to advocate for themselves and bring their voices to the ballot box to make sure our elected leaders work to support this vision.

We do this through three core programming types. Learn more about our work below:

Mobilizing Young Voters

RISE seeks to create an imprint on real people and leave a lasting impact on a generation.

Our Programs Provide a 3 Layer Return on Investment for Youth

  • Financial Investment: Through our stipended fellowships, Rise engages BIPOC/Low-Income young people who may not ordinarily be able to participate in advocacy and civic engagement
  • Transferable Skills: Youth who participate in our programs are trained in organizing, advocacy and professional management skills
  • Civic Engagement Pipeline: Participation in RISE fuels a pipeline of Gen Z talent to stay engaged and work in the civic engagement space after RISE

Policy Areas

Rise works to drive policy change around the issues impacting young people most.
